About Cataracts

The term cataracts refers to the eye’s natural lens. Clear at birth, the lens becomes cloudy over time, causing vision problems and can eventually cause blindness if left untreated. Cataracts are completely normal, and typically develop sometime in our 50s or 60s. Surgery is the only treatment for a cataract. You should consider surgery when cataracts cause enough loss of vision to interfere with your daily activities. Learn more about cataract symptoms>>

About Cataract Surgery

Cataract surgery is the removal of the eye’s cloudy natural lens (cataract), replacing it with a clear lens implant (known as an intraocular lens or IOL). Cataract surgery is the only way to treat cataracts, and is the most frequently performed out-patient procedure in the US. Cataract surgery is covered by Medicare and most health insurance providers.
